The House in which José Martí
was born
José Martí was an important figure
in Cuba’s history, not only for having been a renowned
man of literature, but especially due to his involvement in
Cuba’s struggles for independence. Born on January 28,
1853 in this house, he lived there until the age of 3. The
house was originally built in the early 19th century. It was
officially turned into a museum and opened to the public in
1925 and has also been declared a National Monument.
At the museum visitors will learn about Cuban
history and all about the life of famous José Martí,
including displays of his personal effects, books and other
items that had belonged to the legendary man.
