Plaza Castilla
Visitors who have seen enough historical buildings for a while will find Madrid’s modern area in the north of the city, where Plaza Castilla is located, to be very refreshing. On either side of the Plaza Castilla, and at the end of the Castellana Avenue, loom two 115 meter tall towers. Each containing 27 floors, these impressive structures lean towards each other at an angle of 15º and thus create a stunning Puerta de Europa, or the Gateway of Europe. The construction of the towers, designed by architects from the USA, lasted from from 1989 until 1996, and they now contain offices. Also known as the Kio Towers, they were in fact the first skyscrapers in the world to be built with a (deliberate) lean.
Visit Spain and wonder at this architectural phenomenon yourself while learning Spanish in Madrid during a Spanish course.
