Attractions in Paris
Paris is filled with wonderful buildings, churches, cathedrals, parks and gardens to wonder and marvel at. Here are some interesting sights to visit while in Paris that shouldn't be missed:
- Paris Zoo - The Parc Zoologique de Paris houses 1200 animals of all sorts of species, from giraffes and elephants to bats and monkeys.
- Tuileries Garden - The most central park in Paris covers an impressive 2,500 acres of land, running alongside the banks of the River Siene, from the Louvre museum to the Concorde square.
- Sainte Chapelle - The small chapel situated inside the walls of the Palais de Justice is a true masterpiece of Gothic architecture an dates back to medieval times.
- Place des Vosges - The oldest square in Paris was given its Royal pavilion and 35 symmetrical houses by King Henry IV of France in the early 17th century.
- Notre Dame - The gothic cathedral was completed after 182 years of construction and is today one of the most visited sights of Paris.
- Île de France - The Island of France is a small region surrounding Paris that is a very popular destination for one-day excursions, for both tourists and Parisian’s themselves.
- Eiffel Tower - The undisputed symbol of Paris is at the same time one of the most famous landmarks recognizable worldwide and was once the world’s tallest structure.
- Champs-Elysées - The famous and beautiful avenue spans the city from the Concorde square to the Arc de Triomphe and is used for many important parades and gatherings.
- Catacombes des Paris - The Catacombes originated in the 18th century as a result of the overly full cemeteries and are now partly open to the public.
- Arc de Triomphe - The Arc de Triomphe, commissioned by Napoleon in 1806, is a meeting point of 12 avenues as well as the greatest traffic roundabout in the world.
