In Barcelona restaurants are categorized into “five forks”, the highest number of forks indicating best quality. The sign is usually displayed at the restaurant’s front door, along with the menu, indicating the price, facilities and services included.

The menu del dia- the set menu – usually includes three courses and a drink and will range from around 6€ to 25€ depending on the type of restaurant. This option is usually only available at lunch time.

On average, meals at a budget restaurant will range from 6 to 10 €, while at moderately classier restaurants the average bill including wine should be around 35-40€. Lunching or dining at posh restaurants will require a splurge.

Take note that most restaurants don't include the 7 % tax in the price list. Waiters and other service staff expect to be tipped, so a contribution will be appreciated. However, if you experience bad or surly service, don't feel obligated to tip.
