German Film Museum Established by the Frankfurt municipality
in 1983 as an activity extension of the Kommunales Kino
-Municipal Cinema- , its archive comprises various private
collections, with special emphasis on avant garde
films by filmmakers such as Hans Richter, Lotte Reiniger and
Oskar Fischinger. It has a permanent exhibition devoted to
the history of filmmaking and also has a showing program using
movies that form part of its archive in the municipal cinema.
The museum's film
archive has around 7,000 copies, among which classic vanguard's
film, artistic animation films and new German films stand
out the most. The photographic archive contains almost half
a million photographs and movie posters, and there are 2000
scripts, as well as an archive of 385,000 press articles.
Every year in September,
the German Film Museum organizes the International Children's
Film Festival.
