Die Zeil, a main shopping artery
One of the oldest streets of Frankfurt is Zeil Street, where in the times of the Hohenstaufen large cattle trading fairs were held. As the city grew beyond its walls, Zeil Street went on to being one of Frankfurt 's important west-east connections.
Since the late 17th Century through to the mid 18th Century Zeil Street gradually turned into one of the most picturesque residential and commercial streets of Frankfurt.
Today, Zeil Street is a pedestrian-only area, lined with trees, cafes and fast food establishments arduously vying for street space. This is the shopping artery that draws in the highest volume of sales in Germany, and one of the most important in the whole of Europe. An important feature that is partly responsible for its popularity is the futuristic architecture of the Zeil Gallery.
A German Language Course in Frankfurt will give you the chance to experience the city's fascinating commercial district.
