Frankfurt Travel Guide
Frankfurt Zoo (Zoologischer
Garten)
Frankfurt Zoo, founded in 1858, is one of the oldest zoos
in the world; it started out as a bourgeoisie establishment,
that was intended to offer the people of this rapidly growing
city a recreational facility. Toward the end of the 19th Century
the Zoo already had a considerable number of animals. However
that was all destroyed in a single night during 1944, when
only 20 animals survived the bombing raid.
Professor Bernhard Grzimek's reconstruction
efforts after the war saw to it that this 13 hectare Frankfurt
Zoo flourished and today this world of animals and plants
leaves its visitors speechless. The Grzimek House (where nocturnal
animals live); the exotic animal display; the aviary and the
seal caves are only some of the highlights this wonderful
place has to offer.
A German
Language Course in Frankfurt will give you the chance
to experience the city's wonderful zoo.
