One of the worlds largest collections of paintings is to be found at this museum. The Museu Nacional del Prado owns over 19 000 pieces of art, but there is enough space in both of the museum’s buildings to display only around 15 % of these.

Along with the permanent collections on display by master painters, temporary exhibitions are also set up and changed periodically. Lectures are also held at the museum on paintings, artists and displays, as well as family oriented activities and guided tours.
