Royal Palace Museum
The Royal Palace is located in downtown Madrid, close to the Almudena Cathedral, the Royal Theater and Plaza de Oriente.
The palace is only used for State Ceremonies, as the Royal Family reside on the outskirts of Madrid. When it is not being used for official business, the palace is partially open to visitors. The public can admire the Throne Room, the Hall of Columns, the Gala Dining Room, the Royal Chapel and many more impressive rooms and chambers.
The Royal Palace houses several exhibitions that are open to the public. These include a collection of arms and weapons in the Royal Armory, the Royal Pharmacy, the world's only complete Stradivarius string quintet, as well as collections of porcelain, furniture, and more. There is also an interesting carriage museum displaying 18th and 19th century carriages.
The many frescos hanging on the palace walls are also worthwhile seeing. The immense palace is richly decorated by artists such as Velázquez, Caravaggio, and Goya.
