Paris Travel Guide - Arc de Triomphe
Arc de Triomphe
As the greatest traffic roundabout to be found in the world,
the Arc de Triomphe is also a point where no less than 12
avenues meet. Originally commissioned by Napoleon in 1806
as a sign of commemoration of his victories, it was never
completed until 30 years later.
This is where France holds her annual remembrance service
every November 11, to commemorate France’s fallen soldiers.
A memorial flame under the arch is relit every evening. The
top of the arch has a viewing platform from which to view
the 12 avenues heading out the different arrondissements of
Paris. To get to the top there are 284 steps to climb.
When taking your French
Language Course in Paris be sure to pass by the historical
Arc de Triomphe and get an glimpse of the busy Paris streets
and avenues.
