This spacious green area once used to be on the very western
side of the city but is now considered to be the most central
park in Paris. The Tuileries Garden lies on the Right Bank
and covers an impressive 2,500 acres of land, running alongside
the banks of the River Siene, from the Louvre museum to the
Concorde square.
The garden was designed in 1664 by the head gardener of King
Louis the 14th, Le Notre, and the Versailles park designer.
It is dotted with beautiful stone statues, basins and fountains,
in which it is typical to see children sailing miniature wooden
boats in the water.
The park is a wonderful green “oasis” in the hectic
Parisian traffic and is therefore an ideal place to relax
in and enjoy the slightly quieter side to Paris.
