Tourism in Montreal
In downtown Montreal, at the junction of Sherbrooke and Crescent Street, our language school can be found. The locals often refer to Sherbrooke Street as “The Golden Mile”. Most of Montreal’s upper scale residences and old historic buildings reside in this area of the city. The Holt Renfrew Department Store, the Ritz Carlton Hotel and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts are the immediate neighbors of our language school in Montreal.
Year round, Montreal has something to offer for local natives and visitors. Some of the most popular activities and sites in Montreal include:
- Montreal Bike Fest: The Bike Fest offers a week of varied cycling activities. Two very special rides make for a spectacular grand finale: 11,000 cyclists take the streets for Un tour la nuit (a night tour), followed by the Tour de l’Île de Montréal, the largest cycling event in North America, with roughly 30,000 participants turning out for a panoramic 45 km circuit.
- Old Montreal: This historic district of Old Montreal has maintained and restored the old architecture and cobbled streets of Montreal from year ago. You can properly enjoy this district by taking a horse-drawn carriage ride through the streets while you take pleasure in all of the beautiful historic sites.
- Crescent Street: This Street is one of Montreal’s most popular tourist attractions, as it is absolutely packed with bars, restaurants, cafes, and galleries. The street is often closed for festivals and events such as the Formula 1 Weekend.

Montreal is often referred to as "Canada's Cultural Capital". Montreal is, of course, the French language headquarters of Canada, which makes Montreal a multicultural city.
Montreal is alive with visual arts, music, theater, dance and jazz. During the summer, downtown Montreal is the host to many festivals and events, including the Just for Laughs comedy festival.
Aside from all of the cultural events and international festivals, must of Montreal’s culture comes from their wealth of churches. In fact, Montreal has earned the nickname of la ville aux cent clochers (the city of a hundred bell towers) because of its abundance of churches. Mark Twain once wrote of Montreal, "This is the first time I was ever in a city where you couldn't throw a brick without breaking a church window.”
