German Culture

German culture has provided, and still does, excellent demonstrations of human potential. Just mentioning Goethe, Brecht, Beethoven, or the more recent Nobel Prize Winner Nobel Günther Grass, is enough to agree with such a statement. But the word culture not only encompasses the polished display of fine arts. It is also the way of life of a country's people, their way of working and spending their leisure time, customs and traditions.

In order to get a grasp on German, just as with any other language, it is important to immerse oneself in the culture of the people that speak it. And there is no better way of doing that than staying in Germany itself; above all, if Sprachcaffe Languages PLUS will be guiding you in your quest to broaden your knowledge of the German language and culture at one of their schools in Frankfurt or Düsseldorf.

History: The Federal Republic of Germany is relatively young given the fact that it emerged only after World War II, but the Germans' ancestors have a thousand-year-old history that goes back all the way to ancient times.

Literature: Learning German allows students to get in touch with writers of the German, Swiss and Austrian language. These countries boast vast and varied literature, with roots in the Middle Ages.

Art: In Germany, art is everywhere to be seen: the Städel Institute of Art in Frankfurt, the Hamburg Picture Gallery, the old picture gallery in Munich, the Berlin Art Gallery, the Ludwig Museum in Cologne.

Music: Although most people associate Germany with the classical music of Wagner, Bach and Beethoven, this country was the place in which many different musical movements emerged: from electronic music to pop, punk, rock and the legendary Krautrock.
