an apartment individually or sharing with a roommate
Apartment
rental rates in Germany are usually fairly high and
therefore it is advisable to look around well in advance
in order to find a reasonably cheap apartment. Student
residences offer the most attractive prices. These residences
are organized by a group of institutions called Studentenwerk.
At the Studentenwerk you can get list
of residence addresses and information on the procedures
that must be followed in order to get a room. All rooms
are usually furnished but kitchen utensils may be scarce.
Prices will depend on the residence's quality and location
and you will be able to opt between self- or partly-catered
residences.
Another
possible type of accommodation is the WGs or Wohngemeinschaften,
which means shared flat. These flats are shared by between
2 to 5 people and are a good choice for those students
travelling alone who wish to share their experiences
with other students.
