Galicia

Galicia is found in North Western Spain and consists of the provinces of La Coruña, Lugo, Orense and Pontevedra. The region's capital is Compostela. Galicia was called “Finis Terrae” by the Romans, who believed it to be the westernmost land in the world. Galicia is also termed “the land of 1000 rivers”, as its rivers cross through the entire region.

The weather is generally very mild (with lows of 5°C in winter) and quite rainy. Summers get fairly hot.

Galicia has a very jagged coastline formed by wide rocky estuaries and many inlets or rias. The Rias Altas region has beautiful beaches and quaint fishing villages while in Rias Baixas wonderful natural parks and health spas are to be found. The region offers very green landscape, thanks to its many rivers and rather wet climate. One of Galicia’s attractions is its capital city Santiago de Compostela, with its many cathedrals and the world famous Way of Santiago, used by many pilgrims. The way is dotted by endless chapels, churches and monasteries.
