Murcia
Murcia lies in Spain's south on the Mediterranean seaboard and has a long history in Spain's trade industry. Iberians and Phoenicians originally established trade routes here and later, powerful Carthaginian and Roman settlements were established.
Tourists love Murcia's Mediterranean coastline known as Costa Cálida (Warm Coast ) with its fine sandy beaches and great climate. But Murcia has more to offer, such as its salt water lagoons Mar Menor and La Manga del Mar Menor, which are both perfect for all shorts of fun water sports.
Cartagena is Murcia's most important port and was originally known as Cartago Nova when in 221 B.C. it was founded by the Carthaginians. Further inland, Murcia has large stretches of dry arid soil regions, which are ideal for olive and grape growing. The region has preserved many of is Medieval-style buildings and is well known for its small and narrow streets and lanes.
Murcia is also a University City and diocesan town and has plenty of interesting museums and monuments to visit. One such monument is the Murcia Cathedral; most are found in the city's old quarter and make Murcia a popular tourist destination.
