Cost of Living
The following is a brief overview on prices in Germany for food and lodging:

Basic Restaurant : 6-12 euros
Normal Restaurant: 17-22 euro
Expensive Restaurant
: 22-45 euros
Hotel: 50-100 euros (double room)

As far as food is concerned, you can find lots of types of fast food (Donner Kebab, all kinds of Bratwurst, Currywurst, etc) at a very good price. For a little more money you can also have food like Italian, Chinese, Japanese, since Germany is rich in diverse culture.

Tipping
Tipping is already including in the bill, though it doesn't hurt to leave a little extra money on the table.
