Regions of Spain
Aragon
Aragon is the region which borders with the French Pyrenees in Spain's north eastern corner. Despite its impressive mountainous landscapes, Aragon is a fairly arid region and not so readily included on tourist itineraries. Glaciers and several natural preserves can be found here. The region is divided into three provinces, namely Zaragoza, Huesca and Teruel with significant historic background. In the Middle Ages Aragon was prominent cultural center in Spain, from which two important members of the Spanish court came from. (Catherine and Ferdinand of Aragon).
Sportswise, Aragon offers great options for winter sports, while during summer months exploring the beautiful surrounding wilderness and sampling the local cuisine are ideal activities. The arts and crafts produced in the villages of Aragon are worth seeing. Also famous for its bull-fighting traditions, Aragon's villages celebrate many festivals related to these fights during September.
A particular feature of this region is an energetic dance consisting of leaps and bounds, referred to as "the jota" which dates all the way back to the 18th Century.
