Cantabria
Situated between the Bay of Biscay and the mountains of the Cantabrian Cordillera, Cantabria is surrounded by beautiful bays and romantic little fishing villages, on rolling green hills and valleys. The capital city, Santander, is found on one of these coves and is an important port in Spain. Other harbour cities to visit include Gijón and Bilbao.
Culturally, Cantabria has much to offer and there are also excellent sporting and recreational facilities. The region’s festivals are great to participate in or watch from the sidelines. It is a popular location for Spanish holiday-makers who wish to escape the summer heat.
Santander's great sports facilities make it an ideal place for leisure.
Close to Santander one will come across the prehistoric Caves of Altamira and a quaint medieval town named Santillana del Mar. The Santa Maria de Valverde church is another great place to visit, as is the Cabarceno Natural Park, with animals from all continents on display. Cantabria offers all landscapes, whether it be rivers, beaches, cliffs and valleys, mountains and forests.
While learning Spanish in Spain, do some sightseeing and discover the natural and cultural wonders Spain has to offer.
