Castilla-La Mancha

Castilla-La Mancha

Castilla-La Mancha with its capital, Toledo (once the capital of Spain), is situated in the center of the Iberian Peninsula, made up mostly of an extensive flat table land, although with some mountainous landscapes. This region has a host of historically and culturally important and interesting towns and cities to see, such as Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca and Guadalajara. Another great sight includes the Route of the Black Villages (Ruta de los Pueblos Negros) which name derives from the colour of the slate used to build the houses in that area. This regions provides the setting for the world-famous literary work “Don Quixote de la Mancha”, masterpiece written by one of Spain’s finest literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes. To this day one will see the landscape dotted with the windmills the famous character Don Quixote fought off in that legendary story.

Cuisine-wise, the region specializes in simple but deliciously tasty dishes, including sausages and stews. The famous Manchego cheese is a typical specialty here. And a meal here is never complete without a fine Castilla-La Mancha wine to accompany the food.
