Catalonia

The region named Catalonia (in Spanish: Cataluña; in Catalan: Catalunya) is found in Spain’s northeast and is the sixth-largest region in Spain. Its capital is the vibrant, vanguard city Barcelona, a city that has produced many big names in art. Besides Barcelona, frequently visited places in Catalonia include the Mediterranean coast Costa Brava with its beautiful, spacious beaches, pleasantly mild Mediterranean climate and breathtaking views. Catalonia also has mountainous terrain to offer, with the Pyrenees toward the north.

Catalonia is a decidedly unique region in Spain, mostly due to its distinct culture and above all because of its individual language, Catalonian or Catalán. Locals however speak Castilian Spanish as well, and it is common for schools to incorporate both into their learning curriculums.

Catalonia’s uniqueness does not stop at the language – cuisine is also a distinguishing factor. Treats such as rice dishes and seafood simply cannot be passed up and neither can the desserts. A fine Catalonian wine is a must at every meal table.

Catalonia’s capital, Barcelona, is one of Spain’s most famous port cities and a busy metropolis. With its trademark Gaudi architecture, the second largest city in Spain attracts thousands of tourists each year, and thrives as one of the country’s most important industrial and commercial centers.

A visit to Catalonia and its outlandish capital is an experience that is not to be missed. Why not join a Spanish Language Courses in Barcelona and enjoy all that this wild city has to offer?
