Rock and Pop Music in Germany

Despite the fact that heavy influence from the English-speaking world on rock culture sometimes hinders us from acknowledging other tendencies, the importance that German music has had on the development of rock throughout the past 30 years cannot be denied.

Among the musical styles produced in Germany, the most important and pioneering is krautrock, with bands such as Can, Neu!, and Kraftwerk; but in Germany other styles are also important, such as synthpop from the 1980's. -Modern Talking, Ute Lemper and Alphaville-; punk - with clear examples in Nina Hagen, Die Ärzte and Die Toten Hosen-; classic heavy metal - Scorpions, Helloween, Accept- and modern day heavy -Rammstein-; the musical industry -Einstürzende Neubauten-; hip hop - Die Fantastischen Vier and 5 Sterne De Luxe; and post rock and experimental electronic music, with Oval, Mouse on Mars, Tarwater and To Rococo Rot as some of the best groups.
