Academic Structure: Irish secondary education is divided into two main cycles:
- Junior Cycle (ages 12-15): Core subjects include Mathematics, English, a science, a social science, and a foreign language, plus up to five optional subjects.
-Senior Cycle (ages 15-18): Offers advanced studies and up to seven optional subjects, including practical courses like Music, Politics & Economics, Woodwork, Metalwork, Art, and Graphic Design.
Between the two cycles, students aged around 15-16 have the option to take the Transition Year - a unique program dedicated to personal development. It combines specialized courses, excursions, and community projects, giving students the opportunity to explore new skills and interests before committing to the Senior Cycle.
School Year: The Irish school year is divided into three terms: it begins in early September and ends in early July, with terms running from September to December, January to April, and April to June
School Hours : Classes typically run Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with scheduled breaks for lunch and short recesses.
Uniform Requirements: All Irish primary and secondary schools require uniforms. Standard attire includes trousers for boys, skirts or pinafores for girls, along with a shirt, jumper, and tie.
Curriculum : The curriculum includes core subjects such as Mathematics, English Literature, and History. Students can also choose from a wide range of electives, including Biology, Chemistry, Social Sciences, Visual Arts, Economics, Languages, Geography, and many more. This variety allows students to explore their strengths and discover new interests.
