The Joan Miró Foundation is a private cultural institution founded by the famous painter himself, holding a vast collection of his works. The Foundation also has temporary exhibitions and organizes other cultural activities in its exhibition rooms, auditorium and library.

The building which houses the Foundation is also noteworthy. It was designed by his friend architect Josep Luis Sert and is located on the slope of Montjuic. The design takes into account natural lighting for several rooms, which is important to the works of art displayed there.
