Barcelona lies right on the Mediterranean Sea and thus has a very interesting maritime history to share. In this Maritime Museum a whole collection of ship scale models, navigational charts and instruments can be admired. Some of the most important and well-known documents include: El Libre del Consolat de Mar , the oldest legislative book on maritime law in existence. Slides of the sea can also be enjoyed.

Not only are the museums contents to be admired, but so is the actual building housing the Maritime Museum: the medieval "Reales Atarazanas" (Royal Arsenals). The building was constructed in the 13th Century and its features liken it to a church.
