Guide | Plaza de la Cibeles
According to many, this is one of the most picturesque squares
in Madrid. You will come across this Plaza if you walk down
Gran Vía headed toward Retiro Park.
Established between 1792 and 1892, one of the square’s
main attractions, is the impressive fountain, considered a
true symbol of Madrid and designed by architect Ventura Rodriguez,
who also designed the Palacio Real.
Another of the square’s outstanding features is the
postal office, which was built in 1904. The building resembles
a palace more than it does a post office. In 1872 the Palacio
de Linares was built, today referred to as Casa de América.
This is where exhibits and displays on South America are organized
and put up on a regular basis. Allegedly, a ghost of a previous
dweller haunts the building’s rooms.
Enjoy the hustle and bustle that goes on the square Plaza
de Cibeles while in Madrid taking your Spanish
