In a city like Havana there are things for
everyone to see.
Those who need relief from the hot weather can head for the
lovely stretch of white sandy beaches of Santa María
del Mar, which are only 20 minutes east of Havana. The pristine
waters are sure to relieve anyone feeling too hot.
Those interested in sports, are in luck here. Sports are an
important part of Cuba’s society, backed strongly by
the government. Join in a local baseball game or participate
in the annual cycling tournament. Given the island’s
idyllic geographical location in the tropics, water sports
are also a popular option.
Cuba’s beats and rhythms are known worldwide. While
here in Havana, you have the chance to soak up this infectious
music by going to the many music festivals, taking part in
the street festivities and parades when Cubans celebrate an
important date, eating out in bars and restaurants featuring
live bands or joining a dance class, to salsa along with the
locals.
Havana has a lot of history which visitors can get to know
through the numerous museums and other historical sites around
the city. Particularly interesting is the oldest part of Havana,
La Vieja Habana.
Other great activities include visiting wonderful art galleries
and going on day trips to some of Havana’s surrounding
little provincial towns and villages. To get a more specific
idea of what there is to do in Havana, see the Travel
Guide.
Such a wide range of different activities
will be sure to work well with a Spanish

free time.
