Christmas in France - Joyeux Noël!

France is famous for its traditional and modern nativity sets. Wooden cribs are laid with clay dolls symbolising Baby Jesus while some nativity scenes even include a butcher, policeman or baker figurine. A cherry log sprinkled with red wine is left burning throughout the night on Christmas Eve with snacks in case Mary and Baby Jesus pass through, this is also the night Père Noël visits the family bearing gifts. In the country where fine cuisine was all but created the Christmas meal is mouth-watering. Consisting of foie gras, salmon on toast, oysters, turkey stuffed with a chestnut sauce, la bûche de Noël (the Christmas log)…and many other scrumptious dishes.
