The House in which José Martí was born

José Martí was an important figure in Cuba’s history, not only for having been a renowned man of literature, but especially due to his involvement in Cuba’s struggles for independence. Born on January 28, 1853 in this house, he lived there until the age of 3. The house was originally built in the early 19th century. It was officially turned into a museum and opened to the public in 1925 and has also been declared a National Monument.

At the museum visitors will learn about Cuban history and all about the life of famous José Martí, including displays of his personal effects, books and other items that had belonged to the legendary man.
