Language Courses Abroad for Adults

You've always wanted to speak it properly. Not textbook-perfect — but real, natural, confident. The fastest way to get there is to be there. A language course abroad puts you inside the language from day one: in the classroom, at the café, on the way home from class when you realise you just had an entire conversation without thinking about it.

Certificates matter

Language learning is a powerful tool for personal growth and career advancement, equipping students with the skills they need to thrive in global academic environments. Multilingualism significantly boosts employability across a wide range of careers, with many employers actively seeking candidates with strong linguistic abilities — often leading to faster career progression.

Bilingual professionals also tend to earn higher salaries than their monolingual peers, underscoring the real-world value of language skills. Earning recognised certificates takes this a step further, giving you verified, internationally accepted proof of your abilities that opens doors with institutions around the world. Upon completing your course, SPRACHCAFFE issues you a personalised certificate in your name — completely free of charge — a tangible recognition of your achievement and a valuable addition to any CV or academic application.

Why Learn a Language Abroad?

You can study a language for years at home and still freeze the moment someone speaks to you naturally. That's because real fluency comes from real use - not from exercises, but from ordering lunch, asking for directions, laughing at a joke you only half understood. A language course abroad removes the gap between learning and living. Every conversation becomes practice. Every evening out is a lesson. Research consistently shows that immersive language learning accelerates progress in ways that classroom study alone simply cannot match. When the language surrounds you - on signs, in shops, in the friends you make - it stops being something you study and starts being something you speak.

Language Courses Abroad for Adults — This Is for You

One of the most common things we hear from adults is: "Is this really for me?" The answer is yes - completely, and without reservation. Adults learn languages differently from children, and often more effectively. You bring motivation, life experience, and a clear reason to learn. Our adult language programmes abroad are designed around you: flexible durations, courses grouped by level, and an international group of fellow participants who are, like you, investing in themselves. Many of our programmes also qualify as recognised educational leave, meaning you may be able to take additional days off work specifically to attend. It's not a student trip. It's one of the best decisions you'll make for your career, your confidence, and your next chapter.

Summer languages courses

Not everyone has the same reason for booking a language course abroad, and our range of programmes reflects that. Summer courses abroad are ideal if you want an intensive experience with a buzzing international atmosphere - full days of learning, activities, and new friendships, compressed into a few transformative weeks. Shorter language trips suit professionals who want to sharpen their skills without a long absence, while longer programmes - from one month to a full academic year - are perfect for those who want deep immersion and real lifestyle change.

Whatever your goal - a promotion that needs better English, a trip to Spain that deserves proper Spanish, or simply a holiday that gives something back - SPRACHCAFFE has a programme that fits, and an experience that covers everything: accredited language schools with qualified teachers, comfortable accommodation close to your school, an activity programme that shows you the best of your destination, and a team you can call on from the moment you arrive. Our partner schools are carefully selected and regularly quality-checked, so you know the teaching is serious and the environment is welcoming. You'll be placed in a group matched to your level, surrounded by international classmates who share your curiosity about the world. The language is the reason you come. The people and the places are why you never forget it.

Our teachers are friendly, qualified, and professional in their approach. Each of our schools is staffed year-round with professional language teachers, so you benefit from consistent, high-quality tuition regardless of when you join.

Are they native speakers?

Yes. For the online programme, the brochure states clearly that all teachers are highly qualified and have years of experience in teaching their mother tongue - confirming native speaker status. This same standard applies across our schools.

What is their background?

The materials highlight the following about our teaching staff:

  • They use the latest and most effective textbooks and up-to-date materials, covering all four key language skills: speaking, reading, listening, and writing.
  • They conduct placement tests to ensure every student starts at the right level.
  • They give regular progress tests and feedback to keep your learning on track.
  • For exam preparation programmes, they are experienced in preparing students for internationally recognised qualifications such as IELTS, Cambridge Advanced Certificate, TOEFL, and TestDaF.
  • For the University Pathways programme, teachers and placement consultants work together as a team to support students throughout their entire journey.

The right duration depends entirely on your goals and availability. A two-week intensive course is enough to build real confidence and make noticeable progress, especially through full immersion. Four weeks or more gives you time to reach a new level, settle into the destination, and form genuine friendships. If you have the time and the ambition, longer programmes of one term or a full year deliver the most profound results. Whatever length you choose, SPRACHCAFFE can help you find a programme that fits - visit our programme pages for current options and durations.

The honest answer is: it depends - and that's actually good news. A language course abroad covers a wide range of options, from short two-week programmes to full academic years, and prices reflect that variety. Rather than a single number, it helps to understand the four things that shape the cost of any language course abroad:

  1. Destination, Malta and Spain typically offer excellent value compared to cities like London or Vancouver. A European destination is often the most budget-friendly starting point for first-time language travellers.
  2. Duration, Most providers - including SPRACHCAFFE - offer a lower weekly rate for longer stays. A 9-week booking usually works out cheaper per week than a 2-week booking at the same school.
  3. Course type, A standard group course (around 20 lessons per week) is the most affordable option. Intensive courses, exam preparation, business English workshops, and one-to-one tuition all carry different price points.
  4. Accommodation, Homestay with a local family, a shared student residence, a studio apartment, or a hotel - each option comes at a different cost. Most include meals; some offer full board. Your choice here often has the biggest impact on the overall price.

Beyond tuition and accommodation, a typical SPRACHCAFFE programme also includes a placement test, a course certificate, and a Study Club - extra lesson support at no added charge. Activities, excursions, and airport transfers may be included in package rates or available as add-ons depending on the destination.

The good news is that language travel doesn't have to mean luxury prices. SPRACHCAFFE offers a broad range of options across destinations and course types, so there's almost always a combination that works for your goals and your budget. Our team is happy to help you find the best balance of quality and value - visit our programme pages for current pricing, or get in touch and we'll put together a personalised quote.

The adult programme is structured differently from the junior offering. Rather than a bundled package, adults book tuition and accommodation separately, with more freedom and flexibility.

Tuition (what is included in the course price)

  • Language placement test and end-of-course certificate
  • Standard Course: 20 lessons per week (15 hours), Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 12:30, covering speaking, listening, reading, and writing
  • Study Club: included free of charge at most destinations (4 lessons per week) covering lesson recaps, homework support, and creative brainstorming
  • Maximum of 10 to 18 students per class depending on the course type

What is not included but available as an add-on

  • Intensive Course: 30 lessons per week (22.5 hours), with extra afternoon sessions from 13:00 to 14:30
  • Workshops (10 additional lessons per week): Business English, Communication Skills, Job Applications and Interviews, Public Speaking and Presentations, English Drama
  • Exam Preparation Courses: FCE, CAE, IELTS (minimum 4 weeks)
  • One-to-One Course (also available online before or after your stay)
  • Club 50+ Course (Málaga and Florence): 20 lessons plus 10 hours of activities per week
  • University Pathways programme (12 weeks)

Accommodation

Booked and priced separately. Options vary by destination and include homestay, shared residence, studio apartment, and hotel. Most include full board or half board. A placement fee applies in addition to the weekly accommodation rate.

Important notes

  • Textbooks are available on loan at school (small weekly fee)
  • A letter of acceptance for visa purposes is available at an additional charge
  • Adults are free to arrange their own leisure time, though many destinations offer optional activities and excursions at an extra cost
  • Minimum age for adult programmes is 18

The adult programme is notably more independent than the junior offering. There is no structured supervision or mandatory leisure programme. You have full flexibility to explore your destination at your own pace, while benefiting from high-quality daily tuition.

One of the most rewarding parts of a SPRACHCAFFE language course is the people you share it with. From the moment you walk through the door, you find yourself surrounded by adults from all corners of the globe, each with their own story, their own reasons for being there, and their own perspective to bring to the table.

In our small group classes of up to 12 students, the mix of nationalities is not just a backdrop - it is an active part of the learning process. Every conversation in the classroom is a genuine cross-cultural exchange. Practising with classmates who think and communicate differently from you sharpens your language skills far more effectively than any textbook exercise ever could.

The international atmosphere continues beyond the classroom. Whether you are sharing an apartment with fellow students, exploring the city together after class, or simply swapping recommendations over coffee, you are constantly using and refining the language you are learning. At SPRACHCAFFE, we have seen for over 40 years how this kind of immersion - academic and social at once - produces results that stay with you long after you return home.

The friendships you build here tend to last. People who arrive as strangers leave as contacts, collaborators, and often lifelong friends. That is the SPRACHCAFFE difference: a language course that opens not just doors, but the world.
