Why England?

Students from around the world choose England as the leading destination to learn English. According to the English UK 2025 Student Statistics Report, 350k international students travelled to the UK in 2024 for English-language study - coming from over 100 countries. The UK retains the largest global market share at 38% (BONARD Global ELT Annual Report 2025).

England is the birthplace of the language. It shaped the sound, the writing, and the global spread of English. Whether you're hearing English on the London Underground, on Brighton's seafront, or in a café in Bath, you're experiencing the language as it's actually used in its country of origin - by native speakers and by the immigrants, students, and visitors who have made the UK one of the world's most multilingual societies.

Beyond the language itself, England offers a cultural backdrop that makes a language stay memorable. Central London delivers centuries of history alongside modern art and theatre in a single afternoon. Brighton mixes bohemian style with a classic English seaside feel. The UK's global influence on music, film, sport, business, and education means cultural references you encounter daily will help you in conversations worldwide.

Travel from major UK cities is straightforward and affordable. Weekend trips to Oxford, Cambridge, Bath, the Cotswolds rre easy from London or Brighton.

Staff very friendly and professional, very good school

London or Brighton

London puts you at the centre of everything. Our British Council-accredited school in Ealing (W5) is in West London, 20 minutes from central London by the Elizabeth line and Underground. Classes are small - maximum 14 students - with qualified native English-speaking teachers and a focus on real communication. After class, the city is yours: galleries, parks, the Thames. Choose between a homestay with a local family or a central residence.

Brighton is a different world entirely. Creative, coastal, and instantly likeable. Our school sits near the seafront - close enough to catch the sunrise over the Brighton Pier before your first lesson. We offer Residence Seafront accommodation with en-suite rooms, full board, and sea views included.

I improved my conversational English skills here. Very friendly, excellent teachers and great company with the friends I made too! I would say the prices are fair but high, which is normal for London. You get what you pay for, as they say!

British Accent

There's no better place to develop your English voice than in England itself. Being around native speakers every day helps you absorb the rhythm and intonation of British English in a way no classroom can replicate.

Modern English-language teaching doesn't insist on a single accent. The International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) — the universal standard for representing speech sounds, developed in 1886 — is used to teach pronunciation systematically. Received Pronunciation (RP) — the traditional British "BBC English" associated with broadcasting and education — is spoken by an estimated 3% of UK residents. In daily life across London, Brighton, and elsewhere, you'll hear a wide range of British and international accents, all using the same shared standard for grammar, vocabulary, and writing.

At SPRACHCAFFE, qualified native English-speaking teachers build your grammar and vocabulary inside the classroom. The cities outside take care of the rest: every conversation in a shop, on a bus, or at a café becomes practice.

Cambridge Assessment English, part of the University of Cambridge, publishes guided-learning-hour estimates per CEFR level: A2 - 180-200 hours, B1 - 350-400 hours, B2 - 500-600 hours, C1 - 700-800 hours, C2 - 1,000-1,200 hours. Learners typically need around 200 hours of guided study to progress from one CEFR level to the next.

Both London and Brighton have mild, changeable weather. Summers are warm but rarely hot - expect highs of around 18-22°C (64-72°F) in peak season, with cooler evenings and the occasional rainy day whatever the month. Brighton can feel breezy by the sea, even on sunny days.

What to pack:

  • A light waterproof jacket - non-negotiable
  • Layers you can add or remove throughout the day
  • A mix of t-shirts and light jumpers
  • Comfortable walking shoes (waterproof soles are a bonus)
  • A small umbrella

Leave the heavy winter coat at home, but don't rely on sunshine alone. The golden rule in the UK: always be ready for rain.

SPRACHCAFFE offers English courses for adults aged 18 and above at two schools: London (Ealing W5) and Brighton (seafront). Class sizes are capped at 14 students maximum, with CEFR levels ranging from A1 (complete beginner) to C1 (advanced).

Choose between the Standard Course (20 lessons per week), the Intensive Course (30 lessons per week), or specialist Workshops in Business English, Communication Skills, Public Speaking, or Job Applications and Interviews. The London school holds full British Council accreditation.

Programme lengths run from 2 weeks for a first taste of UK English up to 24 weeks for the Gap Year programme. The longer your stay, the better the weekly rate for both your course and accommodation. You can also combine England with other SPRACHCAFFE destinations as part of a personalised multi-destination programme.

We welcome students at all levels, from complete beginners (A1) to advanced speakers (C1). Before the course begins, you take a placement test so we can put you in the right class for your current level. This means you will always be learning alongside people at a similar stage, and your progress will be genuine and measurable throughout your stay.

SPRACHCAFFE provide flights - You can book flight with us or independently to suit travel needs. We do organise airport transfers from arrival through to departure as an optional add-on to your programme.

For London, transfers operate from London Heathrow (LHR). For Brighton, transfers are available from both London Heathrow (LHR) and London Gatwick (LGW). We offer a group transfer service during standard arrival and departure windows; travel outside these times may carry a surcharge.

To use the transfer service, provide your full flight details at least four weeks before arrival. Visit your chosen destination page or complete the booking form for current transfer options and pricing.

Visa requirements depend on your nationality and the length of your course. Following the UK's departure from the European Union, EU/EEA/Swiss citizens are now also required to meet UK entry rules.

  • Courses up to 6 months: Most non-UK nationalities (including EU/EEA/Swiss, US, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, Japanese citizens) can study under a Standard Visitor Visa (Short-term Study) - either as a visa-required application before travel, or as a visa-exempt entry stamp on arrival, depending on nationality.
  • Courses longer than 6 months: Require a Student Visa, which must be applied for in advance and requires sponsorship by a licensed UK education provider.
  • EU citizens: From 2024, EU citizens require an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling to the UK for short stays, in addition to passport-based entry requirements.

Working on the Standard Visitor Visa is not permitted. Student Visa holders may work part-time, subject to course type and provider.

SPRACHCAFFE provides enrolment confirmation and supporting documentation for visa applications where required. Always check the UK Government / Home Office website (gov.uk) for the most current requirements before booking.

You don't strictly need one, but it's strongly recommended. Without it, roaming charges from your home country can add up fast. A local SIM keeps you connected on the go - for maps, messages, and calling home - without relying on Wi-Fi.

What to get: Look for a pay-as-you-go or rolling monthly plan. No contract, no commitment. Top picks for short stays are Three (great data value), GiffGaff (budget-friendly, from £6/month), Lebara (best for international calls), and Lycamobile (widely available at airports).

If your phone supports it, an eSIM is the easiest option - order online before you travel and you're connected the moment you land.

Where to buy: Airports, supermarkets, phone shops, or online. SIMs are easy to find across London and Brighton.
