Why London?

London is the 3rd most-visited city in the world by international arrivals (Mastercard Global Destinations City Index), and TripAdvisor's 2025 Travellers' Choice Awards named London the world's top destination. For a teenage English learner, that translates into a daily classroom that no textbook can match.

The city itself does much of the teaching. A teenager who walks through Camden Market uses English. A teenager on the Tube uses English. A teenager visiting the British Museum (the UK's most-visited attraction, with 6.5 million visitors in 2024) uses English. London is home to four UNESCO World Heritage Sites - the Tower of London (inscribed 1988), the Palace of Westminster (1987), Maritime Greenwich (1997), and Kew Gardens (2003). Few cities in the world offer more cultural depth within easy reach of a single language school.

In class, qualified native English-speaking teachers guide lessons from CEFR A1 (beginner) to C1 (advanced). A placement test on arrival ensures every student joins the right group. Cambridge Assessment English estimates that learners typically need around 200 hours of guided learning to progress from one CEFR level to the next - and intensive immersion in London, combining 20 lessons per week with full English exposure outside the classroom, compresses that timeline significantly compared with home study.

Staff very friendly and professional, very good school

London camps at nutshell

Teenagers learn English most effectively when classroom study is paired with daily real-world use. Research on second-language acquisition consistently shows that progress accelerates when comprehensible input (is combined with comprehensible outputn authentic contexts.

A SPRACHCAFFE London teen camp delivers both:

  • In class: structured grammar, vocabulary, all four skills (speaking, listening, reading, writing), taught in small groups by qualified English-speaking teachers using methodology benchmarked across the UK ELT sector.
  • Outside class: real conversations in shops, on public transport, at the breakfast table, at museums, during weekend excursions, and with classmates from across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Two Campuses, Exceptional Summer

SPRACHCAFFE offers two distinct London teen campuses. Each suits a different kind of teenager.

London North - boarding-school character, ages 12-17

The London North campus has a traditional English boarding-school feel. Lush green spaces and woodland trails surround the site. On-campus facilities include a football pitch, tennis courts, a swimming pool, and a cinema room. Students stay directly on campus with full board, supervised 24/7 by Teamers living in the same residence. The fully self-contained environment makes London North particularly suitable for younger or first-time travellers, or for parents who prefer the security of a single supervised site.

London Ealing - urban character, ages 14-17

The London Ealing programme places older teenagers in our British Council-accredited school in Ealing, West London (postcode W5). The Elizabeth line connects Ealing to central London in 20 minutes and to Heathrow Airport in 15 minutes. Accommodation is either homestay with carefully selected local families in West London or residence. Classes run Monday to Friday. London Ealing is best suited to older or more independent teenagers ready to engage with London's daily life.

Safe, Supervised and Fully Supported

Sending a young person abroad is a major decision. SPRACHCAFFE has earned families' trust since 1983 (over 40 years).

  • Trained Teamers - Each trip is led by Teamers (aged 20-30), each supervising ~15 students. They run activities, accompany excursions, handle problems, and stay available around the clock.
  • Curfew for under-18s - Students aged 17 and under follow a clear evening curfew and supervised schedule.
  • British Council accreditation - London Ealing has been accredited since 1990, covering teaching, welfare, safeguarding, and student services (UKVI-recognised).
  • Safe country - The UK ranks 30th globally in the Global Peace Index 2025 (top 20%).
  • Travel support - Heathrow airport transfers are available; unaccompanied minor service can be arranged. Comprehensive health/accident insurance is strongly recommended.
  • Campus safety - London North offers a fully self-contained residential environment with 24/7 Teamer presence. London Ealing uses homestay families and residence staff for support. Both campuses prioritise pastoral care.

So far, I have nothing to complain about regarding the school. I find the environment really relaxed, with lots of experience sharing and people from different cultures, which adds a lot to the immersion and learning of English. Teacher Joana is always cheerful and brings really good activities that make us interact productively, besides the content itself being very dynamic.

SPRACHCAFFE's London teen English camps welcome students aged 12 to 17, with age ranges set per campus:

  • London North: ages 12-17 (boarding-school character, fully residential)
  • London Ealing: ages 14-17 (urban West London setting, homestay or residence)

Students are grouped by both age and CEFR English level (A1 to C1). No prior knowledge of English is required for beginner levels (A1).

Cambridge Assessment English estimates learners need about 200 guided learning hours to move up one CEFR level (e.g., A2 → B1). At a SPRACHCAFFE London summer camp, 2-4 weeks of intensive immersion-20 lessons per week plus full English exposure outside class-typically yields half a CEFR level of progress for beginners and a full level for intermediate students. Every student receives a SPRACHCAFFE certificate confirming their CEFR level and number of lessons completed.

Trained Teamers - young-adult activity leaders aged 20 to 30 - supervise every SPRACHCAFFE London teen camp. Each Teamer is responsible for around 15 students and stays with the group from morning lessons through evening activities, living at the same residence. Students aged 17 and under follow a structured curfew and the full supervised activity schedule. A 24/7 emergency support line is available throughout the stay. Our London Ealing school holds British Council Accreditation UK - which mandates specific safeguarding and welfare standards for student groups under 18.

Following the UK's departure from the European Union, EU, EEA, and Swiss teenagers now require an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling to the UK, in addition to a valid passport (national ID cards are no longer accepted). For short summer camps of up to 6 months, no separate student visa is required.

Non-EU teenagers from visa-exempt countries (US, Canada, Australia, Japan, etc.) enter under the Standard Visitor Visa (Short-term Study) route - no advance visa is needed for visa-exempt nationalities.

Visa-required nationalities must apply for a Standard Visitor Visa at the nearest British embassy before travel.

Parental consent letter: the UK requires children travelling without both parents to carry a consent letter signed by the absent parent(s). SPRACHCAFFE provides a letter of acceptance for visa applications where required. Always check the UK Government / Home Office website (gov.uk) for the most current requirements before booking.

Yes. SPRACHCAFFE provides an Unaccompanied Minor (UM) service where airlines require it. Most major airlines provide an unaccompanied-minor escort service for children aged approximately 5 to 12 (mandatory) and 13 to 17 (optional, by parental request).
