This test covers Modern Standard Arabic (fusha).

The CEFR Arabic Levels

The test focuses on three areas of written Modern Standard Arabic: grammar, vocabulary and reading comprehension. Grammar questions check verb forms, sentence structure and core rules such as agreement and the case system. Vocabulary questions test the range and accuracy of the words you recognise. Reading questions measure how well you understand Arabic text in context. Because Arabic is written from right to left in its own script, the test also reflects how comfortably you read that script. Each correct answer raises your estimated level, so the result shows your overall command of written Arabic rather than a single skill. It does not measure speaking or listening directly.

Arabic level test vs official exams

A free online level test and an official Arabic assessment serve different purposes. This test gives you a fast, free estimate of your CEFR level, which is ideal for choosing a course or tracking your progress. Official assessments such as the ALPT (Arabic Language Proficiency Test) and proficiency interviews based on the ACTFL guidelines give formal, recognised results for universities and employers. The table below shows the main differences.

The quickest way to find out your Arabic level is to take a free online Arabic level test like the one on this page. In a few minutes it places your grammar, vocabulary and reading in Modern Standard Arabic on the CEFR scale from A1 to C2. For an official result, you can sit a recognised assessment such as the ALPT or an ACTFL-based proficiency interview.

Arabic is often considered challenging for English speakers because it uses a different script, is written from right to left, and has a grammar system based on three-letter roots. With regular practice, most learners read the alphabet within weeks and reach a confident intermediate level in one to two years, especially with structured courses.
