Joana Dorobantu (academic manager)

I have been an English language teacher for over fifteen years. After completing my CELTA back in 2008, I started my career working in two schools in Central London. After I got some experience and developed my teaching skills and methodologies, I completed a higher-level qualification in English language teaching, the DELTA. I have worked in a variety of schools in London and a few months in Spain.

I have been working here at Edwards Language School since summer 2022 and I am currently teaching and acting as academic manager / director of studies. I have been enjoying working in a school where there is a close relationship between the staff and also between staff and students and always a warm, friendly atmosphere.

I enjoy mentoring teachers and seeing them develop under my guidance, although the staff we have is mostly very experienced and well-qualified. I also enjoy teaching students and seeing them progress in their language learning.

The best thing about the job is communicating with and working alongside people, both students and teachers. No day is the same and everyone learns from each other. We offer good support for our students and staff and I am hoping we can continue to develop our English language teaching through using new methodologies and perhaps offering a wider variety of courses, since in a growingly globalised world English learners' needs will be increasingly varied and complex.

The staff at SPRACHCAFFE London have an international background and speak a variety of languages to support language enthusiasts from all over the world. In addition to English, team members typically also speak Spanish, German, French, and Italian. This multilingual environment ensures that you feel welcome and understood from the very first moment.

How to Get to London

London is one of the most accessible cities in Europe, with excellent international and domestic transport links. You can reach the city by:

  • Plane: London is served by six major airports-Heathrow (LHR), Gatwick (LGW), Stansted (STN), Luton (LTN), London City (LCY), and Southend (SEN). Heathrow and Gatwick are the most commonly used by Sprachcaffe students, with easy airport transfer options to your accommodation.
  • Train: Eurostar links London with Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam via St Pancras International. Domestic trains connect all major UK cities.
  • Coach: National Express and FlixBus provide budget-friendly services from across the UK and Europe.
  • Car: The motorway network leads directly to London, but parking can be limited and expensive.

How to Travel Around London

London has one of the world's most efficient public transport systems. You'll find it easy to get around using:

  • Underground (Tube): The quickest way to travel across the city, with 11 colour-coded lines covering all major areas.
  • Buses: A great way to see more of London while getting from A to B. The iconic red double-deckers run frequently and cover the entire city.
  • Overground and National Rail: Ideal for reaching outer boroughs and nearby cities.
  • Trams and DLR: These serve areas like East and South London, including Canary Wharf and Greenwich.
  • Walking and Cycling: Many areas like Ealing, Camden, and Westminster are pedestrian-friendly. Santander Cycles (London's bike-share scheme) is also widely available.

To make travel simple:

  • Use an Oyster card or contactless card to pay for Tube, bus and train journeys. It's the cheapest and easiest way to travel.
  • Download the Citymapper or TfL Go app to plan routes and check schedules in real time.

It is recommended to book our transfer from the airport/train station to the school in addition to your language trip, so you can arrive safely and stress-free.
