Cristóbal Colón Cemetery

Declared a National Monument, this Cemetery has an endless amount of very valuable artistic works, which can be found in the architecture and engravings and sculptures of the Cemetery monuments, chapels, pantheons and epitaphs. The first works in the graveyard began in October 1871 when architect Arellano de Loira's project won a contest to have a cemetery built in the Cuban capital. The structures are very ornate and elaborate and unique symbols can be seen in all four quarters of the graveyard. The main access to the graveyard is through the northern portico, featuring a majestic 22.5-meter-tall sculpture in the form of an arc of triumph.

Address: Zapata and 12 St. Vedado. Havana.
