Café Tacuba

This uprising Mexican rock and roll band was conceived in … where other than a garage! The band’s four members - Rubén, Quique, Joselo and Meme went to school together and got together in the late 80’s, practicing to put on a performance. They first played in public at a place called “Hijo del Cuervo”, in 1989. After more than 15 years, the band has managed to move from the garage to selling records, performing at rock concerts and reaping award nominations.

The group’s style was very original – they didn’t use traditional drums and they combined rock music with folkloric Mexican elements. This gave them a very marked flair and they began playing at various bars and clubs in Mexico, such as El 9, El Tutti Frutti, Rockotitlán and El LUCC.

Café Tacuba’s members all worked hard in developing their musical careers and soon had a great number of fans but no records. They were finally offered a record deal by Warner and managed to sell over 40,000 copies of their first album. Since then, they have continued releasing records and have been nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards no less than 6 times.
