French Events and Festivals

France is a country with a long history and therefore there are many events and festivals to celebrate throughout the year. Some of theses are celebrated on a national level, all over France while others are typical of the different regions, towns and villages: almost all towns and villages, big or small, celebrate their special "Saint's Day".

The most important date on the French events and celebrations calendar is undoubtedly on July 14th when the French celebrate Bastille Day, to commemorate the French Revolution.

Other important events include the Cannes Film Festival, the French Open at Roland Garros Stadium in Paris and the Tour de France. There are also a large number of music festivals, from opera to open-air jazz and rock concerts. Foodwise there is also a lot to see: markets, fairs, fêtes, wine auctions and the all important International Food Festival held in Dijon, referred to as La Foire Gastronomique in French.
