Led by bassist Juan Formell, Los Van Van are one of Cuban music’s most important and innovating orchestras. Their main contribution was the incorporation of electrical instruments and the intensity of jazz into the Afro-Spanish base of traditional Cuban music. This fusion, named Songo, earned them international respect and popularity.
