Jaume Huguet (Valls 1415 - Barcelona 1493)

Huguet was born around 1415 in Valls, then later moved to Tarragona to live with his uncle, also a painter. He formed part of the Catalan School during the later 15th Century and was actually one of the School's most eminent figures.

After setting up his studio in Barcelona around 1448 he produced a series of composite altarpieces and beautiful frescoes that involved sumptuous decorations adorned with gold. Huguet synthesized flamenco, Italian and borgoñan elements to create a style that became typically Spanish.  He also worked in Zaragoza for several years.
