This historic building used to be an old military arsenal. However in 1912 it was demolished and a team of American engineers and architects turned into the Central Railway Station, thus replacing the Villanueva Station, which was the city’s first railway station. Railroad services have existed in Cuba since 1837, a very early time in those days for this kind of transportation system.
