Even though these are similar in many ways, each of these countries distinguishes itself for their traditions, ways of living, and culture. Your Scandinavian stay
The Scandinavian school system is divided into school semesters. You have the option to choose between:
Two to three months: Starting in January
One school semester: Starting in August
One school Year: Starting in August
Frequently Asked Questions about High School in Scandinavia
You will stay with a previously screened and approved host family. The student's needs and interests will be met as much as possible with those of the host family.
In Scandinavia there is no general obligation to wear school uniforms.
This depends on the school. Classes usually run from about 8:15 or 9:00 am until 4:00 pm.
Yes, there is an Area Representative on site who takes care of the students' concerns and can be reached by phone in case of emergency.
A family visit is possible only at the end of the program.
Students usually bring their ski equipment with them, but it can also be rented on site.
Students are not allowed to work during their high school stay.
Public transportation in Scandinavia is incredibly organized and reliable. It is recommended to travel longer distances by train. Do keep in mind that in some more remote areas public transport is less available or less frequent.
Due to insurance reasons, students are not allowed to sign up for driving courses. It is also not allowed to drive motorized vehicles.
Unfortunately we don't offer private high schools stays for this destination.
It is recommended to be vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) and Lyme disease. Also the standard vaccinations (tetanus, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis A and B, diphtheria, pertussis, polio) should be present.
Scandinavia is a very safe area, but general safety precautions are still recommended, such as taking care of personal valuables by not leaving them unattended.
