What Is the DELE Exam?
DELE Levels
The DELE covers all levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), from A1 for beginners to C2 for advanced levels. Each language level assesses the four language skills: reading and listening comprehension, writing and speaking, thus certifying overall proficiency in Spanish.
| Spanish level (CEFR) | Description in French |
| Spanish level A1 | Can understand and use very common everyday expressions and simple sentences for the purpose of satisfying immediate needs. Can introduce themselves or someone else and ask and answer questions about themselves, such as where they live, their relationships, what they own, etc. |
| Spanish level A2 | Can understand frequently used phrases and expressions related to immediately relevant areas (e.g., basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, work). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring only a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. |
| Spanish level B1 | Can understand the main points of clear standard language on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on familiar topics and in areas of personal interest. |
| Spanish level B2 | Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of expertise. Can communicate with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with a native speaker quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects. |
| Spanish level C1 | Can understand a wide range of long and demanding texts, as well as grasp implicit meanings. Can express themselves spontaneously and fluently without much obvious searching for words. Can use language effectively and flexibly in social, professional, or academic contexts. Can express themselves clearly and in a well-structured way on complex subjects. |
