El Chorro: your yoga retreat in nature near Málaga

El Chorro is a small village in the hills inland from Málaga, about an hour from the coast. Here you'll find towering cliffs, turquoise reservoirs and the famous Desfiladero de los Gaitanes gorge with the Caminito del Rey. Instead of crowds, there's space, silence and fresh mountain air. After your session, you can wander through the landscape, sit by the water with a view of the mountains or simply let the day wind down. A yoga retreat near Málaga that gives you exactly what everyday life so often lacks: calm.

What awaits you on the retreat

Each day combines movement, mindfulness and simple insights into stress and resilience. Your mornings start with gentle yoga focusing on the neck, shoulders and spine, exactly the areas that suffer most from long hours at a desk. Breathing techniques, Yin yoga and short mindfulness exercises help you calm your nervous system and notice tension before it builds up.

In the afternoon, you explore what really helps you deal with stress, with space for reflection, journaling and exchange in the group. All sessions are taught in simple English, so you can follow along easily even if your English isn’t perfect. With 25 lessons a week, this mindfulness retreat leaves you plenty of time for walks in nature, quiet moments and long dinners with your group.

Yoga, Mindfulness and Meditation in One Retreat

Why choose between moving your body and calming your mind? On this retreat, you get both. Gentle Yin yoga and flowing sequences loosen tight shoulders and a stiff back, while breathwork, mindfulness and meditation help you slow down from the inside. Journaling and quiet moments in the Andalusian sun give everything time to settle. Each session is adapted to the group, so complete beginners and experienced yogis can practise side by side and everyone feels at ease.

What You’ll Take Home

Perhaps the most valuable thing about your retreat: a new sense of your own body. In everyday life, you’ll notice it when you become aware of how you’re sitting before your back starts to complain. Over the course of the week, you’ll learn to recognise when tension is building up and what you can do about it: a breathing exercise when things get hectic, a quick stretch in between, small habits that add up over time. That’s what makes this retreat so special: you don’t just recharge for a week, you take home a toolkit for everyday life.

Who It's For

The retreat is for anyone who wants to slow down, let go of stress and treat body and mind to a proper break. Maybe you’re looking for a counterbalance to a busy everyday life, want to get moving again or simply need a few days just for yourself. You don’t need any yoga experience, and experienced yogis are just as welcome. Whether you come on your own or with a friend, connections form quickly in a small group, and it’s often the people who make your yoga holiday in Spain truly special.

Your stay in El Chorro

You can add accommodation at Hotel La Garganta, right in El Chorro, with breakfast included. The hotel shares its grounds with the course room and training areas, so your first session in the morning is just a few steps away, and you can relax straight after class. If you’d rather arrange your own accommodation, you can also book the retreat without it. As El Chorro is a small village, though, the choice of places to stay is limited.

Your Time to Breathe

Your mat is ready, the mountains are waiting and your group is already on its way. Pack comfortable clothes and an open mind, and let SPRACHCAFFE take care of the rest on your yoga retreat near Málaga.

Absolutely. Many guests travel solo, and with shared sessions and a small group, you'll quickly feel part of it. Whether it's a chat after class, a stroll through the old town or dinner together, there's always company when you want it.

A solid basic level is enough. Yoga instructions, breathing techniques and the short theory sessions are taught in clear, simple English that you can follow without any preparation.

Accommodation is optional. You can add a room at Hotel La Garganta in El Chorro, with breakfast included. The hotel is on the same grounds as the course room and training areas, so your sessions are only a few steps away. You'll find current prices in the booking section above.

Mindfulness means directing your attention to the present moment, consciously and without judgement. Many modern mindfulness exercises are based on MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction), developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts in 1979. On the retreat, you'll learn simple exercises that help you pause for a moment in everyday life, notice stress earlier and handle it more mindfully.
