Málaga: Where the Mediterranean Diet Comes to Life

New habits rarely take shape in the middle of your old routine. They need a break, and a place where healthy living is already part of everyday life. Your retreat takes place in El Chorro, in Málaga's green hinterland, surrounded by mountains, turquoise reservoirs and olive groves. Spain is the world's largest producer of olive oil, and the Mediterranean diet has been on UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2010. What you learn in your sessions is simply part of daily life here. In between, the landscape invites you to go for walks, breathe deeply and recharge, far away from the noise of the city.

Knowing Isn’t the Problem - Your Routine Is

Most of us don’t eat badly because we don’t know better. Knowledge isn’t the problem; everyday life is. Energy drops in the afternoon, so a coffee or a quick snack comes in. In the evening, you’re too tired for exercise, so it gets skipped. Add hours sitting at a desk, in the car or on the sofa, and your lower back, neck and shoulders start to complain. That’s why this retreat doesn’t rely on motivation. It focuses on your daily routine: what you eat, when you eat and how you fit movement into an ordinary day without it feeling like a chore.

Your Nutrition and Exercise Trainer in Málaga

Felicija Baćak leads Nutrition and Exercise in Málaga. She is a certified medical fitness trainer (A licence), a Pilates and Yin Yoga instructor, and has worked in holistic health promotion since 2021. Her goal is to make science-based knowledge practical enough to stick in everyday life. She guides each group from the first session to the last.

"I don't hand out training plans that end up in a drawer after two weeks. I show you what you can actually use at your desk on Monday morning. And meal prep isn't about spending hours in the kitchen every day. We look at how the right foods, smart combinations, suitable ready meals and simple preparation can bring healthy meals into your routine, whether you commute a lot, have little time to cook or simply love cooking and want to know what a balanced diet looks like."

FAQ

No. The retreat is designed for people without any sporting background or prior nutrition knowledge. The exercise sessions are moderate and health-focused. When you sign up, we ask about any health restrictions so the sessions can be adapted to the group.

You don't need to be fluent. If you can follow a simple conversation, you'll be fine. Every exercise is shown before you try it, the trainer uses clear, everyday language, and you're always welcome to ask if something isn't clear. You won't need any Spanish, either, for the course or during your stay.

The retreat takes place in El Chorro, a village in the province of Málaga, around 50 kilometres northwest of the city. The most convenient option is our optional transfer from Málaga Airport straight to the hotel. If you prefer public transport, regional trains run from Málaga María Zambrano station to El Chorro, though there are only a few connections a day, so it's worth checking the timetable in advance. Once you arrive, you won't need a car.

Accommodation is optional. You can book a single or double room at Hotel La Garganta in El Chorro, on the same grounds as the course room, with breakfast included. If you prefer to arrange your own stay, that's possible too, but options in the village are limited. You'll find current prices in the booking section above.

With 25 lessons a week, you'll have time to enjoy the nature around El Chorro, take a walk by the reservoirs or hike the famous Caminito del Rey, which ends right in the village.
