London - Gothic Grandeur on the Thames

Traveling time: 1 or 2 weeks - 09.09.,16.09., 23.09., 11.11. or 18.11.2018

Welcome to the many faces of London! Here you can still find the red telephone boxes as traditional double-decker buses drive by and Big Ben strikes the hour for all Londoners to hear. But there‘s more to the pride of Britannia than that: high tech, hustle and bustle, and style are all integral parts of London’s fabric.

Activity Program

London is a megacity with influences from all over the world. The mother of all metropolises is enriched almost daily by a new attraction. Not that there’s not enough tradition to keep you busy. We will take you on a journey where good old English traditions come to life and you will experience London from a new angle.

Follow the traces of Sherlock Holmes into Baker Street or watch William Shakespeare’s timeless stories come to life in the Globe.

And, as your trip comes to an end, perhaps you’ll enjoy the revered musical "Beautiful - The Carole Kings", or chat to locals at the pub, or perhaps you will notice that your stay with Sprachcaffe has really all been about "learning English".

Itinerary

Day 1

On Sunday you'll arrive at Heathrow airport before making your way to the hotel. Check in and make yourself comfortable.

Day 2

Your course starts in the morning. You'll polish up your English skills in a small group. And they'll be needed! After a small and relaxed icebreaker session and champagne reception we'll set off on a discovery tour.

Day 3

To make it easier for you to find your way around, we'll be happy to show you the city in the afternoon and give you our insider tips on what to discover and try out. First we'll join you on a boat tour to Greenwich, where we'll visit the Royal Observatory there and finally round the evening off with a guided walking tour through downtown London.

Day 4

Tower Bridge is the most famous bridge in England and offers spectacular views across London. However, in order to find out more about the inner workings of the building, we'll visit the Victorian era machine rooms as part of the Tower Bridge Exhibition.

Day 5

When on the trail of English traditions, the National Gallery is a must. In one of the most famous art collections in the world, we'll share treasures from the 13th to the 19th centuries with you.

Day 6

On Thursday we'll follow William Shakespeare's footsteps on a visit to the Globe Theater. On the exhibition tour, the world of Shakespeare's colorful stories comes to life.

Day 9

Your English lessons will finish just before tea time. We'll go to Fortnum & Mason, one of England's oldest and most famous tea houses.

Day 10

In England every child knows about his adventures and he's popular among the Sprachcaffe staff too: Sherlock Holmes. You'll be hot on his heels when we visit his apartment on Baker Street.

Day 11

London was once not only the center of England, but also the capital of an empire. It is not surprising that treasures and relics from around the world have been collected in the British Museum. With fascinating exhibits, from Egyptian mummies to Moai from Easter Island, you'll be truly amazed - guaranteed.

Day 12

Not far from our school is the green oasis of Hyde Park. We'll take a stroll through the park and on to Harrods, London's most famous department store and one of the most illustrious, largest and most exclusive in the world.

Day 13

On Friday evening your English comprehension will be put to the test - we're going to end the trip with class and discover the musical world of the '40s. Tonight's musical is "Five Guys Named Moe".

Day 14

Time to pack your suitcase. If you wish, we'll be happy to bring you to the airport on time.
